Ray Tomlinson, the creator of the email concept and the @ sign, died today after a heart attack over the weekend. In 1971, he published the first networked e-mail system in the United States on ARPANET (Advanced Research Projects Agency Network) and sent the first mail. Only six years later this system was generally accepted but not widespread.

Ray Tomlinson is also the inventor of the corporate mail format used by many companies today. The first mail address that can be summarized as name@firma.com is 'tomlinson @ bbn-tenexa'

So what was written in the first email?

'QWERTYYUIOP'

On this occasion, we would like to express our condolences to all the characters that we can access via 'Alt Gr' on our keyboards.
